Response to Public Comment

Why has there only been one C.B. Wire transition team meeting when other closing schools have had more?

Response: This is not correct. Members of the C.B. Wire/Ethel I. Baker/Pacific/Elder Creek Transition Team have met three times on the following dates: March 19, April 2 and April 16.

A teacher at Peter Burnett is not giving homework because the school doesn’t have enough paper. Calls to the principal about this matter were not returned. Why not?

Response: This is not correct. Peter Burnett’s principal contacted this parent and discussed the matter earlier on the day of the Board meeting. In addition, there is no paper shortage at Peter Burnett.

The Superintendent promised at the last Board meeting that students being transported by bus to receiving schools would not be picked up at a closed school site. But I received plans that show that closing schools as pick up sites.

Response: This is not correct. A tentative transportation outline was distributed at a Joseph Bonnheim PTA meeting prior to the Superintendent’s comments at the April 4 Board meeting. When it was distributed, staff made it clear that the outline was a draft and that pick up and drop off sites had not been finalized. Final plans will be shared with the community as soon as they are complete.

What is the process for getting on the Board Oversight Committee?

Response: The Board Oversight Committee appointment process was established when Proposition 39 passed in 2000. It lays out specific appointment classifications for members of the oversight committee but remands the final decision on appointments to the Board of Education. Brochures and other information about ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s Bond Oversight Committees can be found at www.scusd.edu/measures-q-r.

I asked that an item be placed on the agenda for this Board meeting. Why wasn’t it?

Response: The Board of Education controls its agenda and makes the final decision about items on the agenda.

When will I know the status of Open Enrollment for my child?

Response:  Notification letters will be sent out starting the first week of May.
