The Elementary ELD Teacher of the Year is Veronica Avelar, who teaches at Suy:u Elementary School. The Secondary ELD Teacher of the Year is Maria Lyles, who teaches at C.K. McClatchy High School. English Language Development Teachers work with emergent bilingual students.

The Board took action to approve two resolutions that were developed by the District’s Youth Advisory Council:

  • A resolution developed in collaboration between the District’s LGBTQ+ Task Force and Youth Development Support Services that aims to ensure that transgender and gender non-conforming students are able to access restroom facilities that align with their gender identity.
  • A resolution that aims to ensure that campus restroom facilities are regularly sanitized and appropriately stocked with toilet paper, soap, paper towels, and menstrual hygiene products.

The Board received informational updates on the following topics:

  • The process for annual charter school oversight, investigation, and renewal. The Sacramento City Unified School Board authorizes 15 charter schools. The  District is required to conduct an annual review of the authorized charter schools and report that information to the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Board. The District also receives, reviews, and brings charter renewal petitions to the Board.
  • The design and construction of updated facilities at Fern Bacon Middle School. This school was identified as a campus in need for replacement or modernization using the equity and facility condition indexes as part of ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s Facilities Master Plan.
  • The Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee’s annual report for 2023-2024 for Measures Q and R, and the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee’s annual report for 2023-2024 for Measures H. These committees oversee the District’s expenditures of bond proceeds by reviewing expenditure reports produced by the District to ensure bond proceeds are expended only for the purpose set forth in the ballot measure and that no bond proceeds are used for any teacher or administrative salaries or other operating expenses. The Committee works with an independent auditor, conducts research, and conducts site visits to guarantee these duties are fulfilled.
