There are 8 major food allergens identified by the Food and Drug Administration that may trigger a food allergy response.
The eight major food allergens identified are:
- Milk
- Eggs
- Fish (e.g., bass, flounder, cod)
- Crustacean shellfish (e.g., crab, lobster, shrimp)
- Tree nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, pecans)
- Peanuts
- Wheat
- Soybeans
鈥淭hese foods account for 90 percent of food allergic reactions鈥 (鈥淔ood allergies: What,鈥 2010), but someone can be allergic to various other types of food, but the latter 8 are the most common.
