April 4, 2024
At the April 4 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board took action to approve a resolution in recognition of Adult Education Week, April 7-13, to highlight the importance of continuous learning beyond formal schooling and the value of education at all stages of life, promoting a culture of lifelong learning. The Board received an update on the District’s adult education programs.
Nigeria Solar Notebook Project
Students and staff at Miwok Middle School, Leonardo da Vinci K-8, and Washington Elementary worked together this year to support students in Ewatto, Nigeria, with assistance from SMUD, Solar Schoolhouse and WaZoBia Arts.

April 18, 2024
At the April 18 meeting of the Sacramento City Unified School District Board, the Board recognized Vivian Toddy as a Stellar Student. Vivian attends Albert Einstein Middle School where she participates in the GATE program and advanced band. She is very involved in the American Indian community, ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s American Indian Education Program, and is a member of the Native Youth of Sacramento youth group. Vivian is a talented musician and artist and is an accomplished student. Her teachers describe her as an excellent role model for her classmates.
Statement from ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Board President Lavinia Grace Phillips Regarding Appointment of Superintendent Lisa Allen
The following statement is attributed to ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Board President Lavinia Phillips regarding the appointment of Lisa Allen as Superintendent:
“I’m so proud that Lisa Allen has been appointed as ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s Superintendent! Our governing board made the decision to appoint her to serve in this role, but in doing so, we were responding to feedback and requests that came from our community.

The Sacramento City Unified School District’s American Indian Education Program will hold its annual public hearing on Monday May 6, 2024 6:30 P.M.-7:30 P.M. at the Serna Center.
The purpose of this meeting is to gather recommendations for the 2024-2025 Title VI Indian Education Formula grant application.

New School Year to Begin August 19, 2024
Dear Sac City Unified Families,
As promised, we are providing you with the most timely update possible regarding the start date for our upcoming academic year.
This afternoon, the State Board of Education (SBE) approved our request for a waiver of the penalty for not providing the minimum number of instructional days and minutes during the 2021-2022 school year.
