Compensatory Education Update

On behalf of the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s Special Education Department, I hope this message finds you well.

Recently, ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ mailed correspondence regarding compensatory special education services to families of students who are eligible for special education services and may be owed compensatory education due to school closures and the COVID-19 pandemic between March of 2020 and June 2022.

Unfortunately, due to an unanticipated delay in the printing, stuffing, and mailing of the letters, families received the letter shortly before the April 14, 2023 timeline to confirm if they would like to access the services being offered. We apologize for this delay and any confusion that resulted.

In order to provide families time to discuss, and consider the contents of the letter, ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ is amending the requested timeline to respond to Friday, May 5, 2023.

If you feel you may be owed compensatory education and did not receive a letter or should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Special Education Department at 916.643-9174.

Thank you,

SELPA Director, Mr. Linares

Implementing the ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ School Wellness Policy
All Grades

With the return to in-person learning through the COVID pandemic, we have all learned the importance of addressing health and safety – including healthy eating and healthy activity.  ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ passed the Wellness Board Policy 5030, which is an important tool for promoting student wellness, preventing and reducing childhood obesity, and assuring that school meal nutrition guidelines meet the minimum federal school meals standards.

Compensatory Education Update & Next Steps
All Grades

Recently, ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ received updated guidance from the California Department of Education (CDE) regarding options for how to determine compensatory education. The guidance states that to expedite offers to families, the Special Education Department shall make offers of compensatory services directly to families. As a result of this guidance, we would like to ask for your support with next steps highlighted in the attached communication.
