New center replaces school site enrollment, gives parents equal shot at school choice

For decades, parents in Sacramento have trudged through a familiar scene: a few weeks or days before school starts, they head to their school of choice, records in hand, and hope to get their children enrolled 鈥 sometimes against stiff competition for space.

Parents with children in several different schools had to trek all over the city to enroll students at multiple campuses. Even more confusing, the enrollment procedures could differ between schools. And parents who didn鈥檛 speak English well could have an especially difficult time getting children enrolled.

Teen Triumphs: 精品SM在线影片 Grads Have Amazing Stories

Beginning tomorrow (Thursday, June 9), thousands of Sacramento City Unified School District seniors will don caps and gowns for joyful 鈥 and sometimes tearful 鈥 graduation ceremonies.

Many of the young men and women who will be crossing stages throughout the city have heartwarming stories of struggle and triumph, as they fought such obstacles as poverty, loss of family members, peer pressure and language barriers to make it to their graduation day.

Sacramento City Unified School District (精品SM在线影片) is holding a free immunization clinic from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on today (June 7) at C.K. McClatchy High School to help parents comply with a daunting new state law affecting thousands of local families.

The new law states that students entering seventh through 12th grades cannot attend school in the fall until their parents turn in shot records showing that they have been vaccinated against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough).

East Sacramento, Midtown and Oak Park do not have a traditional neighborhood high school to serve their children, and the Sacramento City Unified School District is asking community members to take part in an important survey to help deal with the issue.

The online survey is available for community members, including teachers, staff, students and parents, to participate in at the district website.

On Friday, a new chapter begins in C.K. McClatchy High School鈥檚 rich 74-year history with the launch of a new Law and Public Policy Academy.
Legal community VIPs will address freshmen students about careers in law and public policy at a launch celebration on Friday in the McClatchy library. U.S. District Court Judge Morrison England, State Bar Association President Mike Levy and Sacramento City Unified School District Superintendent Jonathan Raymond are among the confirmed speakers.

Restaurant Run by Fourth Graders Entices Celebrity Chefs, VIP Guests
Chefs Patrick Mulvaney and Jeff Clark worked with Oak Park elementary school students on elegant dining experience

It has all the trappings of a great dining experience 鈥 a celebrity chef, a VIP guest list, fine linen, fancy china and a haute cuisine made from fresh local products.

The twist on this 鈥淔ive Star Restaurant鈥 is that it鈥檚 run entirely by fourth graders.

Teachscape Training, Bond Funding Update, and more

A Teachscape follow-up training session for principals and Central Office administrators was held on Thursday at the former Genesis High School site. The half-day session focused on the examination of data collected from the classroom walkthroughs completed by site administrators and district personnel between January and June. The focus of the session was to revisit the classroom walkthrough process (below) with an emphasis on extracting data gathered through the Teachscape reporting feature. The session emphasized the reflective dialogue that should occur after the data is isolated and presented.
