Fruit Ridge Community Meeting Specific Questions
Below are the answers to the Fruit Ridge Elementary specific questions asked at the February 6th Community Forum. Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions page for our universal list of question and answers.
What about students that reside in the Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center on Parker Avenue and attend Fruit Ridge? Will they get the additional support they need if Fruit Ridge is closed?
Yes. ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ will continue to provide all services to these students that are required under the law no matter what school they attend.
Instead of closing Fruit Ridge, could another charter like Language Academy be brought onto the site?
The deadline for a charter school operator to apply to use the portables at Fruit Ridge was November 2012. No such application was submitted. Currently, there are no charter applications being processed by ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ.
Can the portables be removed from Fruit Ridge to reduce its capacity?
The capacity of every elementary school in ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ was calculated the same way, which means unused portables were counted as unused space for every school. Using this yardstick, Fruit Ridge is the least utilized school among ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s 56 elementary schools. (In addition, only five schools have fewer students than Fruit Ridge.) If the portables were removed at Fruit Ridge, the portables would also have to be removed at every school and the capacity for every school recalculated.
Fruit Ridge has an after school music program (Strings). What will become of the program?
Ideally, this program would follow the students to their new school. It will be the job of the Fruit Ridge transition team to conduct an assessment of student needs and programs already in place at receiving schools and to determine whether the partner agency is flexible about changing locations.
What will become of Fruit Ridge’s garden?
That depends on how the site is reused or re-purposed. Once the Board takes action on February 21, a 7-11 Committee (a committee with either seven or 11 members) will be formed to research, investigate and recommend re-use and re-purposing options for the sites to be closed next fall.
Are there plans to sell Fruit Ridge?
There are no plans currently to sell Fruit Ridge. Once the Board takes action on February 21, a 7-11 Committee (a committee with either seven or 11 members) will be formed to research, investigate and recommend re-use and re-purposing options for the sites to be closed next fall.
Fruit Ridge has a nurse. What will become of her?
Staff can be reassigned to other schools.
