Superintendent Raymond to announce resignation on Thursday

October 16, 2013 (Sacramento):  ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Superintendent Jonathan Raymond will announce his resignation at a 10:30 a.m. press conference on Thursday (October 17) at the Serna Center.

Superintendent Raymond was appointed to his post in July 2009 and has served for four and half years as head of the 12th largest public K-12 district in California. Sacramento City Unified has approximately 43,000 students at 73 schools and is one of the largest employers in the Sacramento region. During his tenure with Sac City, Superintendent Raymond successfully implemented a number of initiatives that have improved the quality of education for children, including:

• The Superintendent’s Priority Schools initiative, a turnaround program targeting the district’s seven highest-needs schools
• Expansion of the district’s popular Waldorf-methods programs
• Establishment of Hmong, Cantonese and Mandarin language immersion programs
• Implementation of the Common Core State Standards
• Implementation of Social-Emotional Learning
• The passage of Measures Q and R
• Creation of an East Sacramento International Baccalaureate (IB) track
• ¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ’s participation in the California Office to Reform Education’s successful waiver from No Child Left Behind (NCLB) accountability rules and sanctions

¾«Æ·SMÔÚÏßӰƬ Board of Education President Jeff Cuneo will also speak at the press conference, which will be held upstairs in the Serna Center’s rotunda. The Serna Center is located at 5735 47th Ave.
